Bounds on Optical Bandwidth Allocation on Directed Fiber Tree Topologies

چکیده
In this paper, we address the issue of efficiently allocating wavelengths to communication requests in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. We present a simple greedy algorithm and study its performance on directed binary fiber trees. We prove that our algorithm guarrantees a 5=3-approximationfor wavelengths assignment in binary tree shaped WDM optical networks. We also prove that no greedy algorithm can go below the ratio of 5=3, even for the case of leaf–to–leaf communication.

Improved Access to Optimal Bandwidth in Trees
We present improved bounds for eecient bandwidth allocation in a WDM optical network whose topology is that of a directed tree of ber-optic links. The problem of bandwidth allocation is modeled as a coloring problem , where each path in a set of communication requests must be assigned a color (representing a wavelength) in such a way that no two paths using the same link in the same direction a...
متن کاملOptical Tree Topologies: Access Control and Wavelength Assignment
Fiber optic tree topologies are emerging as attractive candidates for Passive Optical Network (PON) implementations, next to the more traditional star and bus topologies. In this paper, we rst address the "physical" properties of the optical tree topology (like layout cost, geographical coverage, power budget and fault tolerance) and compare them to similar properties in buses and stars. Then, ...
متن کاملA Hybrid OFDM-TDM Architecture with Decentralized Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for PONs
One of the major challenges of passive optical networks is to achieve a fair arbitration mechanism that will prevent possible collisions from occurring at the upstream channel when multiple users attempt to access the common fiber at the same time. Therefore, in this study we mainly focus on fair bandwidth allocation among users, and present a hybrid Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexed/Ti...
متن کاملNovel Design Modification Proposal for All-Optical Fiber Loop Buffer Switch
Current optical switching technologies allow us to rapidly deliver the enormous bandwidth of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks. Broad acceptance of fiber optic and photonic technology in transmission systems has led to potential opportunities for using all-optical switching to utilise high bandwidth of the fiber and to cater the ever increasing demand of higher bandwidths. The majo...
متن کاملBandwidth Allocation Algorithms on Tree-Shaped All-Optical Networks with Wavelength Converters
In this paper we consider the problem of allocating optical bandwidth on a tree-shaped network when wavelength conversion is allowed. We consider both converters with full conversion capabilities and converters with limited capabilities. We give upper and lower bounds on the number of full wavelength converters necessary to fully utilize the optical bandwidth available. For converters of limite...
